Yarnton First 'v' Halse United First - Saturday 12th October 2024 - KO 2pm

The lads made the short journey over to Yarnton to face unbeaten table toppers Yarnton First. The rain moved away and the pitch was in perfect condition.
The club took a squad of 14 with another player returning from injury centre half Murphy.

The black and white started very brightly with having more of the ball but on 20 minutes Yarnton counter down the right and the ball finds the back of the Halse net.

Just 4 minutes later after some lovely build up down the right of the Yarnton defence, Salvatore to Summers who drives into the Yarnton box and squares to Read who taps home to equalise at the far post.

Yarnton take the lead again after 2 minutes when they cut through the Halse defence and get the ball onto the edge of the Halse box. A shot at Matthews that squirms it way through him and trickles into the Halse net.

Half Time Yarnton 2-1 Halse

First substitution is made by Halse with Purnell making way for centre half Hamblin at half time.
Second half gets underway at 14.53.
Gilsenan gets a chance on 47 minutes when he gets himself into an area on the edge of the Yarnton box. He cuts inside and right footed crashes his shot into the crossbar.
Multiple chances for skipper Simpson inside the Yarnton box which are both met well by the Yarnton keeper.
First booking arrives on 53 minutes for Halse number 15 Mortimer for accumulation of fouls.
Yarnton go 2 in front on 55 minutes with another Yarnton counter attack which results in a goal from a slice of luck. Both centre halfs slip which allows the Yarnton number 11 through one on one with Matthews who slots it bottom right.

Next substitution comes on 60 minutes for Halse with Summers making way for young forward Williams.
Second booking goes to Yarnton number 11 for tripping Simpson in the counter.
A double substitution for Yarnton with numbers 2 and 8 making way for number 13 and 16 on 63 minutes.
Then again another substitution for Yarnton number 9 off and 14 on.
On 75 minutes Halse reduce the goal difference when full back Salvatore miskicks his cross and the ball floats on into the back post to make this a nervy final 15 for Yarnton.
Final substitution for Halse with Murphy on and Mortimer off.
Last minute of game and Yarnton number 3 receives a yellow for delaying the restart.
